I have an alternative thought process in dealing with virus and bacteria. Our thoughts must be changed to work with nature, not against it. Our focus needs to be on optimizing our immune systems and being Pro-active. This needs to be the future of our healthcare in the post-antibiotic era. As 80% of our immune system resides in our gut, it is the “good bacteria” or “normal flora” that defends against infectious bacteria and also keeps our immune fighting gut on high alert for any potential infectious diseases. Two things need to happen. Good nutrition and eliminating inflammation. This is a symbiotic relationship. First, focus on whole foods. These are items that come from a plant, tree, out of the ground or have been raised on natural pastured lands. When we do this, a transformation will occur in our bodies. Namely, our bodies will recognize these foods and allow the necessary nutrients to feed us for optimal health. In turn, the body will rid itself of any toxins it may have picked up through the years and will eventually turn off the inflammatory switch that has been causing our immunity issues. When we optimize our immunity, it will be quick to respond to any virus or bacterial concern.
Secondly, focus on fermented foods. These include sauerkraut, kimchi, carrots, garlic, etc.. These products a packed full of probiotics that help supply the gut with “good bacteria” needed to keep our immune system on “high alert” to battle any cold or flu that you are introduced to.
Finally, get moving. Our health is dependent on circulation flowing throughout our body unimpeded. This requires muscles, tendons and connective tissue to be loose and limber enough to allow blood to flow. A good stretching regime will go a long way for both immunity and longevity. Consider a good massage or Qi Gong class to help with this endeavor.
